We only get one pair of feet. One pair to hop, skip and jump through life in, so what can you do to make sure they stay lively for longer?
To answer that, I want you to think about a really old pair of runners you have, a pair you just couldn't say goodbye to. For me, they were my Asics Gel Kayanos. Now I loved these shoes, they had been brilliant, but after a year of wearing them for everything, the poor foam was getting sad and my legs were getting mad. You see, I had made a mistake, I had not once let the foam recover.
After a run, the foam wants to bounce back into it's original shape, but this takes time. A rule of thumb is that for an easy run, the foam takes a day to bounce back, whereas for a longy or an interval session it can take 2-3 days. This means it can be good to have different shoes for your easy and hard days, because, by letting the foam recover, the shoes will last longer and give you a better ride each time you put them on.
The other big reason for a rotation is biomechanics. When I ran in that pair of Kayano's, my feet landed the same way every step, meaning the force of hitting the ground travelled the same path up my body each time I landed. Doing this taught me body that it had to get strong in only one way - meaning that certain parts of my foot and leg became passengers.
Giving your body varied stimuli by having shoes that you land differently in on each of your runs is a great way to turn your feet feet and legs grow into strong, well rounded running machines!!
So come on in, and our staff will help you build a rotation that will make your shoes last longer and your body stronger!
